The railroad, built into Anson in 1906, played a crucial role in the town’s development, as documented by the late H. B. Bradshaw, a Civil Engineer from Abilene who worked on the project.

Named after C.W. Hawley, an official of the Fort Worth & Denver Railroad Company, the town quickly grew as lots were sold by the Hawley Townsite Company, with Mr. Fletcher Scott serving as the surveyor.
